Bundesliga Preview - Today's Games

It is finally here traders, today is the return of Football!

It's been over two months now and the eagerly awaited moment is now right in front of us. As mentioned in various blog posts in recent weeks, there has been a fairly strong trend towards Bundesliga players. Therefore, it is arguably not the best time to buy such players.

Over the next 4 weeks or so, we may see wide price fluctuations in Bundesliga players due to them being the only players competing to earn Match Day Dividends on match days.

Over a longer period of time, perhaps in 4-8 weeks time, money may start to shift into Premier League, Serie A and La Liga players if these leagues do return to action. This is because the speculation of strong Bundesliga performances has already led to many Bundesliga players rising in price, where-as we have not seen this in players from other PB leagues so much yet.

Nevertheless, due to the overwhelming excitement of football returning, many traders will still be seeking to buy into Bundesliga players who could rise in price this weekend!

Therefore, below you will find both a mini-preview of today's games and more players who could potentially increase in price for the relevant reasons below.

*The players that are being highlighted as potentially being particularly strong holds at their current prices are those who have a link to their full player profile.

Borussia Dortmund V Schalke 16/05/20

The biggest game of the weekend - the Revierderby! We may be open for a very competitive game here with Borussia Dortmund still chasing Bayern Munich who are currently just 4 points ahead of Dortmund. Meanwhile, Schalke still have a lot to play for too, currently, 6th in the Bundesliga Schalke are looking to secure this position which will enter them into the third qualifying round of the Europa League, whilst being hunted by a pack of sides looking to take their place.

Borussia Dortmund Players

Sancho & Haaland

Jadon Sancho and Erling Braut Haaland are the most noticeable young talents in this game and will be looking to continue their outstanding form shown throughout many games this season.

A particularly high PB score from either player could lead to a considerable increase in price due to the strong market momentum behind both players as transfer links have been bubbling over the last few weeks/months.

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard

Schalke Players

Kenny & McKennie

As noted in recent blogs, Weston McKennie's increased considerably this week. This may be partly due to being a tough-tackling, aggressive player who could really shine in a derby of this magnitude.

Jonjoe Kenny has also increased a substantial amount this week, and as relatively young English player - could rise a huge amount if he puts in a strong performance that grabs the attention of Football Index traders.

Amine Harit is another young player who could stand out in this game, Harit's performances earlier this season were nothing short of remarkable and he fully deserved to pick up the Bundesliga player of the month award back in September. Harit's inconsistency is frustrating, but on his day he can be almost unplayable.

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Jean Clair-Todibo and Suat Serdar

Highlighted Players

*With many players from this fixture already rising considerably recently, including McKennie and Hakimi who have been highlighted on the site in recent weeks - there are no FIC highlighted players for this fixture.

Fortuna Dusseldorf V Paderborn 16/05/20

This relegation battle should make for an interesting watch. Dusseldorf's form has picked up since appointing Uwe Rosler in January, whilst Paderborn have really struggled to make the adaptation to life in the Bundesliga.

Nevertheless, a win for Paderborn would be huge for their chances of surviving automatic relegation as they could close the 6 point gap to just 3 points.

Fortuna Dusseldorf Players

Kevin Stoger

Kenan Karaman was in strong goal scoring form prior to the postponement in football but looks very unlikely to ever challenge for match day dividends with very low PB scores.

Kevin Stoger could hit a high PB score in this game, showing his PB potential in the past with a 208 in February when he provided 2 assists against SC Freiburg.

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Kaan Ayhan

SC Paderborn Players

Kai Proger is Paderborn's most creative player, averaging 1.7 key passes per game and has the most assists for Paderborn this season (6). Proger could be a strong hold for In-Play Dividends. However, at 28 playing for a very weak side - he may not be such a good hold longer term.

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Jamilu Collins

Below is this blog's first highlighted player:

Abdelhamed Sabiri

Abdelhamid Sabiri

Price: £0.51

Team: SC Paderborn

Position: Midfielder (Center)

Top 5 PB Scores: 224, 179, 121, 63, 56

  • Relatively young

  • Low price

  • Hit a 224 last time Paderborn played Fortuna Dusseldorf

  • Strong at scoring long-range goals

  • Possible transfer speculation (No transfer links yet) following SC Paderborn's likely relegation

  • Infrequently hits high PB scores

  • Plays for a very weak side

  • May be playing in a Non-PB league next season if Paderborn are relegated and he does not secure a transfer

RB Leipzig V SC Freiburg

Similarly to Dortmund and Schalke, both teams still have something to play for. Leipzig chasing Bayern Munich, currently just 5 points behind the league leaders, whilst Freiburg hunt 6th spot - currently just 1 point behind Schalke.

RB Leipzig Players

Leipzig have a whole host of wonderful talents to choose from, many of which have increased huge amounts on Football Index over the last 12 months. A special performance from Timo Werner could lead to a further increase as the transfer speculation around Werner continues to heat up.

Marcel Sabitzer and Christopher Nkunku have both shown their potential to hit high PB scores this season and could also be competing for match day dividends over the next few weeks and in the Champions League.

In defence, Angelino has been tremendous, bombing forward down the left-wing, since signing on loan from Manchester City but has also already risen considerably in recent months.

One player at RB Leipzig that has a lot of potential, but is yet to really explode in price yet is Nordi Mukiele, one particularly high PB score and we could see a considerable increase in price.

Tyler Adams is another young prospect at Leipzig and could get a chance this weekend due to Upamecano's suspension and possibly rise following a strong performance.

Nordie Mukiele

  • Previously gained Transfer links (Though tenuous)

  • Shown strong PB potential

  • Champions League with RB Leipzig

  • Rotation in the RB Leipzig squad

Tyler Adams

Tyler Adams

  • Young

  • Showed fairly strong PB potential with a 149 with no goal or assist

  • Champions League with RB Leipzig

  • Strong chance of playing this weekend due to Upamecano's suspension

  • Lack of game time

  • Lower price ceiling as a defensive midfielder

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Lukas Klostermann, Marcel Halstenberg, Patrik Schick

SC Freiburg Players

Waldschmidt & Koch

Robin Koch is a very strong Freiburg defender and could be worth considering as Benfica have reportedly dropped their interest in the centre back with Leeds United continuing their interest.

In terms of transfer speculation though, all eyes with be on Gian Luca Waldschmidt who has gained transfer links to various Premier League sides. However, his PB scores are very low and is already at a relatively high price.

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Christian Gunter

Hoffenheim V Hertha Berlin

Hoffenheim still have a chance of taking 6th spot, just 2 points behind Schalke. Meanwhile, Hertha Berlin who have been very inconsistent this season will be looking to gain some more points as they attempt to find safety in the Bundesliga.

Hoffenheim Players

Kramaric and Belfodil are currently suffering injuries and so it will be up to Ihlas Bebou to try and step up and improve his goal-scoring record which has been poor this season in contrast to his strong goal scoring record last season.

Robert Skov is undoubtedly the most likely Hoffenheim player to earn match day dividends, having hit very high PB scores on a number of occasions this season - though his price already appears to reflect this fact.

Ihlas Bebou

Ihlas Bebou

Price: £0.52

Team: Hoffenheim

Age: 26

Position: Forward (Center / Winger)

Country: Togo

Top 5 PB Scores: 147, 113, 112, 91, 84

  • Showed potential last season with 4 goals and 3 assists in 12 appearances for Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga

  • Kramaric and Belfodil unlikely to play due to injuries could provide an opportunity for Bebou to stand out

  • Low price

  • Low PB scores

  • May be difficult to sell due to age, lack of transfer speculation and low PB scores if he does not score/assist over the next 4 weeks

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Florian Grillitsch

Hertha Berlin

Piatek & Cunha

Hertha Berlin have a range of players who could stand out on Football Index today or in future games. Maximilian Mittelstadt in defence has shown potential to hit high PB scores and Arne Maier is a young talented central midfielder who is yet to really show his talent in the Bundesliga.

In attack, Matheus Cunha has the ability to score the spectacular and as a young, Brazilian forward could rise a huge amount following more wonder goals. Krzysztof Piateki is also a very talented player who, as we witnessed last season at Genoa, has the potential to score very frequently. Javairo Dilrosun's price ceiling is also huge with his rapid pace and dribbling ability, if he could improve further - his price could rise considerably.

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Niklas Stark, Marko Grujic

Augsburg V Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg are fighting for 6th spot in the Bundesliga, whilst Augsburg are seeking security from relegation, hovering 5 points above Fortuna Dusseldorf who are in the relegation play-off position.

Prior to the postponement in fixtures, Augsburg had gained just 1 point from their last 5 games and so will be looking to turn such poor form around.

Augsburg Players

Philipp Max was recently highlighted on the site and has increased since, he will be Augsburg's main man - taking many set-pieces and creating opportunities with dangerous crosses.

Richter & Niederlechner

Florian Niederlechner has had a very strong season and could be a good hold for In-Play Dividends, but his PB scores are generally very low. Marco Richter and Ruben Vargas both possess a lot of quality, but neither have lived up to their full potential yet.

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Edouard Lowen

Wolfsburg Players

Kevin Mbabu at right-back could be interesting to monitor as he looks set to come in for the injured William.

Maximilian Arnold's creativity in midfield (Average of 2.4 key passes per game) can lead to high PB scores on occasion. However, the most exciting Wolfsburg player is likely to be the young Josip Brekalo.

Josip Brekalo

Josip Brekalo

Price: £1.76

Team: Wolfsburg

Age: 21

Position: Midfielder (Winger)

Country: Croatia

Top 5 PB Scores: 191, 175, 163, 155, 153

  • Young

  • Croatia International

  • Improving PB scores - Average of 126 across his last 6 performances

  • Wolfsburg face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League (Though are currently 2-1 down)

  • Price has increased considerably in recent months

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Xaver Schlager

Eintracht Frankfurt V Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach have had a very impressive season and are currently sat in 4th position. However, Bayer Leverkusen are only 2 points behind and so Monchengladbach will be attempting to stay within the top 4 to secure a Champions League spot.

Meanwhile, Frankfurt still face the outside chance of relegation as they are currently 6 points about 16th placed Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Eintracht Frankfurt Players

Filip Kostic crossing

Filip Kostic is undoubtedly Frankfurt's most creative player, providing plenty of crosses and key passes each game. Kostic's crossing leads to plenty of assists and he is certainly the most likely player from Frankfurt to hit a very high PB score.

Martin Hinteregger is far from your traditional centre half, averaging 1.6 shots per game - Hinteregger has scored a total of 8 goals so far this season and poses a serious threat from corners and when joining the attack.

Evan N'Dicka is a player who has been highlighted on the site recently for various reasons and could rise in price following a strong performance given his young age and the momentum gained from gaining transfer links over recent months.

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Almamy Toure, Andre Silva

Borussia Monchengladbach Players

Embolo, Plea & Thuram

In attack, MarcusThuram, Breel Embolo and Alassane Plea are all very dangerous especially on the counter-attack and without Denis Zakaria holding for Monchengladbach, it could be quite an open game.

If Neuhaus can provide the creativity he showed last season (He provided 10 assists throughout the season) he could certainly be in with a chance of improving his PB scores with 3 willing runners in attack.

Defensively, Nico Elvedi can hit high PB scores via high passing statistics and Ramy Bensebaini is dangerous in attack.

Additional potentially stand out Football Index players: Matthias Ginter

Highlighted Players

With Almamy Toure, Evan N'Dicka, Nico Elvedi and Marcus Thuram already being highlighted on the site in recent months - there are no FIC highlighted players from this fixture.

I hope this blog has helped covered today's games and hopefully you see some great rises in some Bundesliga players today!
